MPOX Testing at Neelyx Labs
What is MPOX?
- MPOX is a virus related to variola virus, which causes smallpox.
- MPOX symptoms are similar to smallpox symptoms, but are milder and rarely fatal.
- MPOX can spread to anyone through close,
personal, often skin-to-skin contact.- Testing is recommended for anyone with a rash consistent with the symptoms for MPOX.
The MPOX Test
- The MPOX test is a PCR lesion swab-based test.
- Testing is of no cost to the patient and results are available the same day that the lab receives the sample.
- PCR is an accurate and precise form of detection of genetic material. The Neelyx Labs MPOX assay has been developed to be highly sensitive, capable of reliably detecting MPOX infection.
Our Clinical Trial
- Interested patients may also participate in our IRB-approved clinical trial for a saliva-based MPOX test.
- The goal of our clinical trial is to show that MPOX can be detected in saliva, and that detection can occur even before skin lesions form.
- Participating in the clinical trial comes at no cost to the patient and may present a more comfortable sample collection method that could allow for earlier detection of the MPOX virus.

non-endemic countries.
By July 2022, Neelyx Labs had developed a fast, accurate way to detect MPOX
